Africa-Press – Mozambique. Speaking at a commemorative session in Praia, capital of Cape Verde, on Saturday, Prime Minister of Mozambique, Benvinda Levi, highlighted the brotherly relations between Mozambique and Cape Verde, hoping that they would continue to grow stronger.
Benvinda Levi’s speech was followed by a reception hosted by President of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, marking the 50th anniversary of the country’s independence.
Levi praised the role played by nationalists from both nations, including Amílcar Cabral, Aristides Pereira, Eduardo Mondlane, Samora Machel, Aquino de Bragança and Marcelino dos Santos, among others, stressing that they stood out in the fight for the dignity of the peoples of the African continent, which culminated in the achievement of the independence of their peoples and countries.
“Our presence at this event symbolizes the bonds of brotherhood between Mozambique and Cape Verde that have been consolidated over time, that is, from the period of the liberation struggle up to the present day,” she said.
Benvinda Levi highlighted that Mozambique and Cape Verde have a long tradition of relations, share diverse affinities and the same language and have a common historical and cultural legacy that must be preserved for the benefit of current and future generations.
“In this context Mozambique recognizes and exalts this relationship of brotherhood, friendship and solidarity that unites us as peoples and nations and that we intend to make more solid and vibrant,” she stressed.
Benvinda Levi participated in the Celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the Independence of Cape Verde representing the President of the Republic, Daniel Chapo.
She thanked President José Maria Neves for his invitation and expressed her appreciation for the affection, reception and hospitality extended to her delegation.
National reconciliation “an ongoing process”
Benvida Levi also said that Mozambican national reconciliation was an ongoing process that involved all sectors of society.

“Reconciliation is an ongoing process. We are working towards reconciliation. Today, the national dialogue is underway […], involving not only the main opposition parties, but also other forces in civil society who are making their contribution to creating a more consolidated, more coherent and more reconciling national fabric,” she said.
In response to questions from the press, Benvida Levi highlighted Mozambique’s priorities at this time, pointing to the social areas, health and education, as being those that deserve priority, in addition to the economic component.
In this economic context, the prime minister highlighted Mozambique as a country with great economic potential, but which now needs to discuss the steps needed to ensure that these potentials can benefit the Mozambican people.
