PRM hunts down two of three officers who shot dead a trader in Caia

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Police in Caia district, Sofala province, are on the trail of two corporation agents who fatally shot a trader last Saturday.

Both the two fugitives and a third police officer, currently detained, were assigned to Cheringoma police command. They fired several shots at the victim, who was watching a football game, allegedly for resisting arrest.

The agents had travelled from Cheringoma to Caia to arrest the trader for selling fuel illegally, but police in Caia were not aware of the operation, or even of the group’s presence.

The head of operations at the PRM district command in Caia, Ayid Issa, pointed out that the three policemen were operating outside their area of jurisdiction, and therefore as individuals.

“The PRM District Command in Caia distances itself from this type of attitude. We consider it a macabre act, and are surprised and appalled by this shooting in our territory,” he said.
