Africa-Press – Mozambique. Sidónio José, the administrator of Quissanga district, in the northern Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, has denied claims that teachers are being forced to work in areas still exposed to terrorist attacks.
According to José, who was speaking to reporters at a press conference on Tuesday, no teachers are being forced to work in unsafe areas controlled by terrorists, teachers are even returning to areas once considered to be at high risk of terrorist attacks.
José believes that there is a “wave of misinformation”, which the Cabo Delgado provincial government strongly condemns.
In order to encourage the voluntary return of teachers to their areas of origin, the administrator said, the Quissanga district government will soon leave the city of Pemba [about 100 kilometers from Quissanga], where it has been operating since the last terrorist attack in March 2024.
“This measure is aimed at demonstrating the normalization of security in some areas, and we will return to our offices”, he said.
