Africa-Press – Mozambique. At least 117,000 people in Manica province are at risk of being affected by natural disasters during the current rainy and cyclonic season.

According to Notícias Online, Sussundenga, Mossurize, Machaze, Tambara and Gondola districts are most likely to experience natural disasters and/or serious situations in communities.

The head of the Technical Department at the National Institute for Management and Reduction of Disaster Risks (INGD) in Manica, Vernito Gonga, said that, from the analysis carried out, the probability of three scenarios occurring (see below) was verified, and therefore recommended the taking of additional precautionary measures to avoid loss of human life.

The first scenario foresees strong winds, floods and drought. In a second scenario, the occurrence of floods and cyclones is added to the first. The third scenario further adds earthquakes.
