Africa-Press – Mozambique. The restructuring measures and reinforcement of supervision of the State’s business sector are contributing to the increase in State revenue, with public coffers collecting around 6 billion meticais in 2021 [around US$93.9 million], against 512 million meticais in 2016 [around US$8 million].
The data were shared by the Prime Minister, Adriano Maleiane on Thursday in Parliament, answering the insistence questions of the deputies of the Assembly of the Republic.
According to Prime Minister Maleiane, the reforms do not mean the privatisation of state-owned and affiliated companies. The Prime Minister that, based on the criteria established by law, these enterprises are divided into strategic, structuring and non-strategic.
“We are restructuring strategic and structuring companies, with a view to making them profitable and sustainable. The non-strategic ones are in the process of being sold or liquidated, as is the case with company Correios de Moçambique [Postal Services],” Maleiane clarified.
The Prime Minister said that in the case of Correios de Moçambique, a liquidation commission was created with the aim of ascertaining the assets and liabilities to later settle the debts, prioritising the State, the company’s workers and the company’s creditors.
