Africa-Press – Mozambique. Making cabotage (coastal shipping) viable in Mozambique involves adopting measures to boost cargo demand to sufficient quantities in all national ports.
The cabotage service was reintroduced in 2020 as an alternative to the transport of goods by road, with the consequent degradation of road infrastructure.
Ambrósio Sitoe, permanent secretary of the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC), admits that the lack of cargo in national ports is the main constraint on the effective relaunch of a cabotage sector.
