Africa-Press – Mozambique. Construction of the second floating platform for the extraction of liquefied natural gas (FNLG) in the Rovuma basin, in Mozambique, is scheduled to begin in the third quarter of this year.

Representing Samsung Heavy Industries, Youngkyu Ahn made the announcement at the end of a meeting with President Filipe Nyusi in Seoul, South Korea.

Nyusi held a meeting with the Vice President at Samsung Heavy Industries, which built the Coral Sul FLNG, to discuss models of cooperation in heavy industry and ensure the start of construction of the second platform.

The source said that the start of construction of the platform was conditional on the approval of the development plan by the Government of Mozambique, and that work could begin in the third quarter.

Samsung Heavy Industries specialises in the construction of ships and floating platforms for gas extraction.

“We are looking forward to the opportunity to build the second floating platform for Mozambique, because our industry was the one that built the first infrastructure that already operates at the service of Coral Sul,” Youngkyu Ahn said.
