Schools To Receive Textbooks Early

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Mozambican government has announced that schools will start receiving textbooks two months before the beginning of classes, starting this year with the textbooks for the 2026 academic year.

“We expect the distribution process, which has always been our Achilles heel, to begin within the next two months,” said Silvestre Dava, spokesperson for the Mozambican Ministry of Education and Culture (MEC), quoted on Saturday by the media.

According to Dava, the distribution of textbooks will take place during the rainy season: “which is why we have outlined this strategy of strengthening the provinces so that they themselves can deliver the books to the districts, ensuring timely distribution to schools”.

To make the distribution process faster, the MEC has hired an institution for this purpose through a multi-year agreement.

“This means that, with the textbooks we will receive this year, we will not need to launch another tender for the 2027 and 2028 books, because we have activated a three-year contract. This means that, when the time comes to receive the books, our partners will deliver them without needing to compete again,” explained Dava.

Mozambique routinely faces delays in the distribution of school textbooks. In 2024, the education sector failed to meet its target of printing and distributing more than 22 million textbooks by the first half of the year, providing only four million, according to data released at the time.
