Africa-Press – Mozambique. An National Criminal Investigation Service (SERNIC) agent was shot dead in Maputo province last night. Witnesses say that two unidentified men fired more than five shots at the vehicle in which he was travelling. Police have confirmed the incident, but say they have no suspects.
Broken glass on the floor, blood in the sand and neighbours with heavy faces. Such is the result of the murder that happened at around 11:00 p.m. yesterday, Tuesday.
In a video posted on social networks, the agent appears covered in blood, slumped in the lap of the lady sitting next to him inside the car, apparently groaning in pain.
Eyewitnesses told ‘O País’ how the incident unfurled. “My boyfriend and I heard a shot and we were scared. After the sounds stopped, a car drove by us at high speed, towards T3. My boyfriend went out to see what had happened. That’s when he saw the young man dead and the girl, who had been shot in the arm, crying,” the anonymous witness said.
Panic broke out in the area, and, despite the survivor’s frantic pleas, no one dared to approach the vehicle.
Ives Rafael, who lives close to where the incident took place, says that both the dead man and the wounded passenger remained in the vehicle for more than an hour after the shooting, waiting for help to arrive, and with the girl continuously appealing for help.
In addition to the two victims in the vehicle, there was a third, inside a residence whose door was riddled with bullets. Eduardo Alberto, who was at home with friends, was slightly grazed by a bullet in the arm.
“It’s just a scratch. At first, I didn’t even realize I was injured. But it was light – I’m fine,” he says.
