South Africa gas leak: Bodies of three Mozambicans repatriated

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The bodies of three of the 11 Mozambicans who died in a gas leak in South Africa have been repatriated to Mozambique.

Eight Mozambicans remain in morgues in South Africa, their relatives facing financial difficulties returning them to their homeland.

According to Radio Mozambique, the information was shared this Sunday by Eduardo Sitoe, leader of the Mozambican community in the Angelo area, where the deadly leak of nitrate oxide took place on the 5th of July.

Sitoe says that, despite lacking resources, the relatives of the deceased are for now ruling out the possibility of holding their funerals in South Africa.

A Mozambican national remains in intensive care at a health unit in Kempton Park, while two others have recently been discharged from hospital.

The 11 Mozambicans are among the 17 people who died from a gas leak in an informal settlement in Boksburg, east of Johannesburg.
