Africa-Press – Mozambique. To commemorate its fifth anniversary, the Mozambique-Spain Chamber of Commerce last Wednesday (22-06) held a cocktail party, attended by numerous Mozambican and Spanish businesspeople, at the residence of the Spanish ambassador.
In his speech to the gathering, Ambassador of Spain in Mozambique Alberto Cerezo said that the time had come for Mozambique to show the world its investment potential, international geopolitical circumstances defined by the current energy and food crisis having given countries like Mozambique strategic status.
Ambassador Cerezo reiterated his government’s congratulations on Mozambique’s election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, which, he said, assured Mozambique’s position on the international political agenda.
It also gives Mozambique the opportunity to publicize, the ambassador continued, its potential as a new gas producer, a country with strategic import in mitigating the effects of climate change in the midst of an international energy transition.
Mozambique was a destination for investment in infrastructure, with enormous space and resources to develop agriculture and fisheries with modern systems, the ambassador recalled. Spain had a lot to offer in these areas, he said: its ‘blue economy’ was the largest in Europe; it was a leader in fisheries and aquaculture, as well as in renewable energies.
The ambassador recalled that Spain and Mozambique enjoy an excellent cooperation relationship, but need to diversify and further develop trade relations.
Ambassador Alberto Cerezo said that this is one of the priorities of his mission in Mozambique. He would make available the Embassy and its Chief Economic and Commercial Officer, Isaac Martín-Barbero, also present, for all Spanish and Mozambican entrepreneurs interested in developing links between Spain and Mozambique.
In turn, the president of the Mozambique-Spain Chamber of Commerce, José María Sánchez-Castillo, and its director, Nuno Alvarez, highlighted the work carried out during the chamber’s first five years together with their partners and friends, defining the chamber as an instrument to facilitate the path of Mozambican and Spanish entrepreneurs both in Spain and in Mozambique in times of crisis.
The objective must be to join efforts to take advantage of the global crisis and the opportunities that also arise in such times and from which, in the end, solutions emerge.
