STAE fires Ribáuè district director for alleged involvement in electoral offences

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE) in Nampula province has just announced the termination of the employment contract of its director in Ribáuè district.

The information was provided on Sunday (07-05) by STAE provincial director Luís Cavalo, who cited as reason for the termination evidence of alleged involvement in an electoral offence.

STAE has also terminated the employment of the supervisor and a typist on the team, who allegedly transported voter registration equipment to a location not included in the approved list of voter registration posts.

This follows from the circulation on social media of a video publicising the presence of the equipment somewhere in a residence in the administrative post of Iapala.

Luís Cavalo apologised for what had happened and stressed that the STAE “does not condone this type of behaviour or [any] illegality”.

The AIM source added that, in addition to an internal investigation, a criminal case had already been opened.
