Africa-Press – Mozambique. As of last Friday, Bernardo Aparício has assumed the position of managing director of Standard Bank Mozambique, being publicly introduced by the Chairman of the Bank’s Board of Directors, Tomaz Salomão.

According to Tomaz Salomão, the new managing director, Bernardo Aparício, joins a historic institution, resilient, strong and prepared for the challenges of the national and international economy.

“Our managing director will take the reins of our institution, entity and personality that we are pleased to present to you, in the certainty and conviction that the bank is in good hands,” Salomão said, after explaining the selection process of the new chief executive officer (CEO).

Bernardo Aparício’s profile was then presented.

Bernardo Aparicio has 20 years of experience in banking, of which eight in Mozambique, He joins Standard Bank after having worked at the Absa and Barclays Groups, where he held leadership roles at local and regional level based in Portugal, the United Kingdom and Mozambique.

Previously, the new Standard Bank CEO held positions in Portugal and Spain, in the project finance area, with a focus on the European and American markets.

“The bank’s role is to serve customers, give them a differentiated experience in the financial services sector, and that will be one of the main focuses of myself, my team and the entire staff of Standard Bank, as it has been,” Aparício said, after being publicly introduced as the bank’s new managing director.

Aparicio replaced William le Roux, who left office on 31 March, having himself replaced Chukwuma Nwokocha, who was banned from working in Mozambican banking for six years, following alleged contraventions detected by the regulator. Gomezgani Neba, who had been appointed to replace Chukwma, has now returned to his role as Chief Financial Officer (CFO). William Le Rou had left the helm of Standard Bank Malawi to become head of the bank in Mozambique.
