Africa-Press – Mozambique. Passenger and freight train services on the Ressano Garcia and Goba railway lines will be suspended from tomorrow until June 13 to allow for railway maintenance work.
The suspension will also impact urban passenger transport between Central Station and the towns of Boane and Matola Gare.
The measure was announced yesterday by the executive management of Mozambique Railways (CFM).
CFM executive director Emídio Bata explained that the suspension was part of the annual maintenance program across the entire southern railway network, which includes replacing tracks to enhance user safety.
“The maintenance includes not only the railways but also some bridges and other activities that cannot be performed while trains are running. This is a major operation occurring at various points along the railway, aiming to ensure the safety and capacity of the infrastructure and to prevent possible accidents,” he said.
According to Bata, the suspension is expected to affect approximately 8,000 passengers transported daily by two trains in each direction on the Ressano Garcia line, and a little over 3,000 users of the Goba corridor.
