Africa-Press – Mozambique. One person died and two others were injured in Gorongosa district, Sofala province, this Tuesday, when a fuel tanker they were working on exploded.
The incident took place as the vehicle’s tank was being welded in preparation for it returning to service.
The tank was reportedly empty, but witness speculate that droplets of fuel released during the welding work caused the explosion.
After initial treatment for severe burns at the District Health Centre in Gorongosa, the two survivors were evacuated to Chimoio Provincial Hospital in Manica province.
Manuel Inácio, the clinical director there, said that the two patients were in intensive care.
