Africa-Press – Mozambique. President Filipe Nyusi this Monday (21-11) presided over the opening of the XXIII Coordinating Council of the Ministry of National Defence (MDN), which takes place under the motto: “Defence Sector Engaged in Preventing and Combating Any Forms of Aggression against the Fatherland”.

“Never should terrorist units be superior to our forces,” the President of the Republic said.

“In wartime, the commander must have his operating base in the Operational Theatre, as our experience in the past teaches us.

No one is safe until all people are safe,”
Mozambique, he added, had been experiencing in recent times a form of terrorism which created ideal conditions for other types of crime such as trafficking in human organs, drugs and arms.

“These crimes in turn generate resources to finance terrorism and, on the other hand, terrorism creates an environment of chaos which favours these criminal acts, and so on.

In the face of this, it is urgent to fight these phenomena in an organised, programmed and determined way, under the risk of jeopardising the happy destiny we all want, which is to build a prosperous future for our people,” the president urged.

The Mozambican Armed Forces and the Mozambican civic service cannot, according to Filipe Nyusi, accommodate people with external agendas. “The recruitment process, if it is to avoid the incorporation of enemy agents, cannot be characterised by corruption.

In terms of combat, we want them to take the lead in designing mechanisms which reinforce combat capacity through the training of commanders and special forces, the reinforcement and qualitative training of sergeants and personnel in sufficient numbers, capable of facing the commitments of the Operational Theatre,” the president concluded.
