Three new district administrators take office

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The Secretary of State for Cabo Delgado province, Fernando Bemane de Sousa, called on the three administrators newly sworn-in district this Tuesday, July 8, to responsibly commit to the reconstruction and integration of the population displaced by the terrorism affecting the province.

Atanásio Amba was sworn in as administrator of Mueda district; Jenuína Charles Nangudo Frederico as administrator of Montepuez district; and Victorino Faria Zeferino for Namuno district.

During the ceremony, Fernando Bemane de Sousa acknowledged the challenges facing the province, exacerbated by the impact of terrorism, which hinder the population’s access to basic services.

“Our province faces profound challenges resulting from the impacts of violent terrorism, limiting the population’s access to basic services,” Fernando Bemane de Sousa said. “Our population is experiencing significant difficulties due to terrorism. Therefore, allow me to reiterate our vision and expectations, highlighting some challenges for administrators: rebuilding the social fabric and social infrastructure affected by terrorist attacks and natural disasters, strengthening community security, integrating the displaced population, promoting the local economy, and generating sustainable employment. It is essential to guarantee access to essential water and sanitation, education, and health services, as well as ensuring environmental preservation and climate-resilient development.”

The leader also added that each district has its own unique characteristics, calling for concrete actions to boost local development.

“Each district has its own unique characteristics and potential. Therefore, we expect from you, administrators, energetic action in implementing the development plans and programs for the districts you will lead from today.”

The new Montepuez district administrator, Jenuína Charles Nangudo Frederico, expressed awareness of the difficulties and pledged to work toward the legalization of mining activities.

“We know that Montepuez faces many of these problems. We are aware and will work because it is a challenge. There is practically no place where there is no mining. Montepuez is the centre, and we will work to legalize these activities,” she said.

The new Mueda administrator, Atanásio Amba, promised to prioritize the fight against terrorism and improve basic services.

“We are talking about the fight against terrorism and challenges related to the supply of drinking water, education, health, culture, tourism, and sports, without forgetting agriculture and commerce. We will continue the programs and activities initiated by those who preceded us,” he pledged.

In turn, Victorino Faria Zeferino, the new administrator of Namuno, highlighted the importance of agricultural development and sustainable mining in the district.

“We must invest in agriculture, tourism, and especially in sustainable mining practices. We need to involve the population in this process and also focus on rebuilding the damage caused by the severe weather the province has faced, especially in the Namuno district,” he said.
