Tobacco and sesame cultivation in Mavago yields 170 million meticais

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Farmers in Mavago district, Niassa province, earned around 170 million meticais from the sale of sesame and tobacco in the last campaign.

Mavago administrator Momade Cadre told Notícias that Mozambique Leaf Tobacco (MLT), a tobacco promoter in Niassa province, paid producers an estimated 98 million meticais for about 1,150 tons of the product.

The sale of around 900 tonnes of sesame grown in Mavago earned producers there an estimated 70 million meticais, paid by stakeholders mostly located in Niassa’s Cuamba district and regions of neighbouring Nampula province.
