Two South Africans detained over attempted kidnapping of Mahomed Rassul

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Mozambican businessman Mahomed Rassul allegedly escaped an attempted kidnapping at around 9:30 a.m. this ednesday morning on Avenida Karl Marx in Maputo.

According to eyewitnesses, two men got out of a car and approached his shop, Gurmol warehouses; his security guard became suspicious and started shooting in the air, and the two surrendered and were immediately arrested.

Police sources told “Carta’ that the detainees are South African citizens Bhekuxolo Ngoyu, 39 years old, and Samuel Lipota, 48.

They were taken to Maputo’s First Police Station, where they were interrogated but did not confess to any kidnapping intentions. According to what ‘Carta’ has learned, none of them were carrying firearms at the time of the arrest.

Subsequently, the two were transported to the headquarters of the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR), in the former Brigada Montada, where they were expected to be subject to further interrogation.

Mahomed Golam Rassul is the brother of Asslam Rassul, owner of Tiger Shopping, in Maputo city.
