Africa-Press – Mozambique. On April 10, U.S. Ambassador to Mozambique Peter H. Vrooman joined Mozambican Armed Defense Forces (FADM) for the closing ceremony of the fourth Joint Combined Exchange Training (JCET) aimed at strengthening and building a more resilient Mozambican defence force. The Government of Mozambique and the FADM were represented by the District Administrator of Moamba Maria Ângela Ismael Manjate Janace, and the Director of Operations of the General Staff of the Mozambican Armed Forces Brigadier General Chongo Vidigal, respectively. Representatives from the U.S. Office of the Under Secretary of Defence for Policy in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Special Operations Command Africa (SOCAFRICA) also attended.
Members of a U.S. Army Special Forces team conducted a two-month training with FADM Special Operations Commandos and Fuzileiros. “This training is another symbol of commitment of the United States to work with Mozambique and its armed forces, to combat terrorism, and to empower Mozambican individuals, communities, and institutions,” said Ambassador Vrooman. The U.S. Department of Defence plans to conduct future JCETs with the FADM, who are deploying to counter the spread of terrorism and violent extremism in Mozambique.
The U.S. Department of Defence is also conducting a fourth round of medical training for members of the FADM who will be deployed to fight terrorism in Cabo Delgado. More than 150 soldiers are enrolled in the Tactical Combat Casualty Care and Combat Lifesaver courses, with this latest iteration focusing on training and certifying instructors.
These ongoing security cooperation activities support Mozambique’s efforts to create a more stable, secure, and inclusive nation. The U.S. Department of Defence remains dedicated to working with the FADM. This ceremony recognized the tremendous efforts of the armed forces of both nations.
