Africa-Press – Mozambique. The U.S. government, through the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), hosted over 80 local organizations to discuss the global initiative to increase local participation in the design and implementation of development projects. Worldwide, USAID is shifting the way it works by providing one-quarter of all funding directly to local organizations by 2025. This change involves including local actors in every stage of the development, implementation, and evaluation of programming. Additionally, at least half of USAID funded activities will incorporate local perspectives and involvement, helping put locally led organizations in the driver’s seat of their development agendas.
During the November 3 meeting, also called ‘Industry Day’, USAID officials and local organizations started the conversation to identify the necessary steps to implement this shift in development programs. Topics included information sharing, tips for small and newer organizations, and tools to meet requirements for bidders on USAID projects.
During the event, Acting USAID Mission Director Theodora Dell said, “We have one major objective: to expand and amplify engagement with partners on the ground that have real roots in the community. USAID is committed to helping Mozambicans build a healthier, safer, more democratic, and more prosperous country for all.”
