Africa-Press – Mozambique. A US tourist has been found dead in a forest in Panda district, Inhambane province, southern Mozambique, a local police spokesman told reporters on Tuesday.

Spokesman for the police in Inhambane, Juma Dauto, said that a group of five tourists were birdwatching in Mazucane, Panda, when the woman walked away to photograph birds and got lost.

Realising the woman’s disappearance, the other four tourists – all from South Africa – reported her missing to the police, who began searching the woods, culminating in the location of the woman, by that time already dead, Dauto said.

“She didn’t have any bruises and didn’t show any traces of violence or signs that any animal had attacked her,” he added.

The authorities said that further investigations are underway to fully clarify the case, calling for tourists to always be accompanied by guides when visiting unfamiliar locations.
