US dollar strengthens following airstrikes on Iran

Africa-Press – Mozambique. The US dollar gained on Monday after the US conducted airstrikes on Iran’s three key nuclear facilities on Saturday, regaining some of its “safe haven” properties.

While the ongoing conflict between Iran and Israel continued to be the focus of investors, the US launched airstrikes on three nuclear facilities in Iran over the weekend, namely Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan.

US President Donald Trump said Saturday that American forces completed “very successful” airstrikes on three Iranian nuclear sites amid fears of a wider conflagration in the region.

US Vice President JD Vance said in a statement after the strikes that Washington was seeking a diplomatic solution, not continued confrontation with Tehran.

The dollar index rose 0.58% to 99.30 on Monday as of 1000GMT.

Meanwhile, gold was mostly stable at $3,368.25 an ounce.

The US dollar also gained in value against the euro by 0.45% and by 0.5% against the British pound.

The regional tensions in the Middle East have escalated since June 13 when the US-backed Israeli military conducted airstrikes on Iran, prompting Tehran to launch retaliatory attacks on Israel.

Israeli authorities said at least 25 people have been killed and hundreds injured since then in Iranian missile attacks.

Meanwhile, in Iran, at least 430 people have been killed and more than 3,500 wounded in the Israeli assault, according to the Iranian Health Ministry.
