Africa-Press – Mozambique. Image experts were, this Tuesday, scheduled to be present before the Judicial Court of the City of Chimoio [Manica province] to show the video of Danone and help the court to assess whether or not there was exposure to danger of the minors filmed in this video staging corruption in the Traffic Police (PT), which led to a controversial case at the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the city of Chimoio, province of Manica, Notícias reports.
Valter Danone and two other children, whose identity was not revealed, performed in the satirical video, in which one of the children played the role of a driver and the other two acted as Traffic Polic agents.
This video, which was already circulating on social media, was intercepted by the PGR in Chimoio, which filed a summary criminal proceeding, in which are listed the video producer, Denilson Daniel, Danone’s grandmother, journalist Raquel Paulo Jorge and even the mother of the little comedian.
The judge who had not seen the video, because it was not part of the documents in the case filed by the PGR in Chimoio, requested, at the first hearing, the presence, in court, of image experts, the screening and the interpretation of the video, in order to help the court assess whether or not there was a crime of exposing a person to danger, as claimed by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Chimoio.
Today, it is up to the judge to decide whether to convict or acquit the defendant and other members of Danone’s family, who for six months have been responding to interrogations by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in Chimoio, given their alleged involvement in the alleged “crime” of exposing minors to danger and of defamation and slander against the Mozambican State.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office in Chimoio, understood that there was a crime of exposing a person to danger, due to the fact that one of the three children who were in the video, was put behind the wheel of a vehicle to act and interpret the role of driver and the other two pretending to be PT agents and thus allegedly running the risk of being run over.
This understanding, in addition to the criminal proceedings now instituted, gave rise to the alleged “superior order for the video to be removed from circulation on Youtube and Facebook, where it had been posted, under penalty of aggravating the crime and the corresponding penalty to be applied” .
However, the case now on trial was considered by renowned scholars of law, arts and culture and scholars from different related areas, as being “absurd and unfortunate”, adding that it brought to light the “weaknesses, limitations and arrogance” of certain public prosecutors, who, abusing their functions, do and do things against innocent and defenceless citizens.
Danone and his friends, according to the PGR in Chimoio, were taken to court for “denoting, from an early age, a pejorative image of the Protection and Traffic Police”.
Meanwhile, the National Union of Journalists (SNJ) in Manica, which triggered the case, through its spokesman Nelson Benjamim, summoned the press yesterday (26) to reiterate the appeals for the acquittal of the accused, maintaining that in Mozambique, the creation Artistic performance, staging, satire, in which Danone’s video is framed, have never been criminalized, on the contrary, they are encouraged and defended by the Constitution of the Mozambican Republic and other laws.
