Africa-Press – Mozambique. The district of Gondola, in Manica province, saw its tranquillity shaken by protesting vendors this Thursday (19-08).
The informal vendors are refusing to accept Municipal Council of Gondola orders to withdraw from the 25 de Setembro (“Feira”) market to the provisional market located next to the cemetery.
Protesters blocked National Road Number 6 and smashed car windows.
Vendors complained to Miramar that the new space, in addition to its proximity to the municipal cemetery, lacks toilets, electricity and water.
Protection Police and the Municipal Police called to the scene to restore order fired tear gas and rubber bullets.
The police also had to remove barricades set up earlier by the protesters.
Demonstrations however continued at the time of writing.
