Africa-Press – Mozambique. The supply of piped water to the municipalities of Chimoio and Gondola was re-established this Wednesday (14-12, after the reconnection of a ruptured water main in Chimoio’s Macababa area yesterday afternoon.
The malfunction had interrupted the supply of water in 12 of Chimoio’s 33 neighbourhoods, and the entire municipal town of Gondola, leaving hundreds of FIPAG customers without water.
FIPAG communication officer Cristina Monteiro said that repairs were expected to have been completed by 9:00 p.m. yesterday, but technicians from the institution managing the public water supply network were able to reconnect the conduit five hours earlier, at around 5:30 p.m..
The process of pumping water to distribution centres restarted shortly after the fault was repaired, Monteiro explained, but water started flowing properly from consumers’ taps only early this Wednesday morning.
