Water supply restored to Quelimane Central Hospital following disconnection over debt

Africa-Press – Mozambique. Water supply was restored to Quelimane Central Hospital this weekend, three days after being suspended [on Wednesday, June 7] due to a debt of around 18 million meticais [around US$281,939 at current exchange rates] to the Águas da Região Centro company.

Restoration of the water supply was the result of negotiations between hospital management and the water company. Rádio Moçambique reports.

António Tetene, head of maintenance at Quelimane Central Hospital, said that the temporary supply cut did not cause any inconvenience, as the hospital was fully prepared for the eventuality.

“The day they came to cut off the water, the tanks were full. We were also lucky that [the suspension] didn’t last too long, because it was almost a day and a half and with that water [in the tanks], we could supply the hospital for four or five days, so it was fortunate for us not to have any problems here at the hospital,” Tetene said.
