Zambézia: Rise in child marriage worries Secretary of State

Africa-Press – Mozambique. An average of 100 pregnant girls are treated in Zambézia’s hospitals every month, a fact that worries state representative services in the province.

To understand the problem, the Council of State Representation Services in Zambézia and other supervisory institutions are carrying out a study to determine the main causes of child marriage in the province.

The study was announced by Secretary of State in Zambézia, Judith Mussácula, in an interview with Radio Mozambique.

The ongoing study comes in response to an increase in the number of girls becoming mothers before the age of eighteen.

The Secretary of State in Zambézia did not lay out any timeframe for the completion of the studies, but said it was a matter of urgency.
