AfricaPress-mozambique: South Korea on Wednesday announced an additional contribution of $7 million (€5.8 million) to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), aimed at improving the quality of education in the Mozambican provinces of Zambezia and Nampula.

“The new contribution will allow UNICEF and partners to improve the skills of 1,400 teachers and school heads, benefiting some 220,000 pupils,” the UN agency wrote in a statement.

UNICEF will provide an additional $500,000 (€418,000) for the programme.

The funding will also be used to provide access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene services to over 17,500 pupils, also taking into account the need to comply with Covid-19 prevention measures.

The funds will be implemented by UNICEF in coordination with the Ministries of Education, Public Works and Housing.
