Mozambique tightens rules, curfew moves back to 10 pm

AfricaPress-mozambique: President  Nyusi has just announced new COVID-19 preventive measures in his address to the nation this evening.

The government decided to maintain almost all of the measures contained in decree 30/2021 of 26 May for another 30 days with 10 exceptions. Among them is the mandatory curfew, which moves back to 10 pm and now includes Gurue.

“Access to public services must be subject to previous appointment, companies must privilege teleworking in those places where social distancing is not possible, religious celebrations, conferences and meetings must not have more than 40 people in closed places and more than 80 in places open,” said Filipe Nyusi.

The measures announced today come into effect on Saturday, June 26, at 0h00m.


  • Curfew from 10 pm to 4 am.
  • Public services, namely document issuance, in public institutions must be subject to previous appointment.
  • Teleworking must be implemented in those places where social distancing is not possible.
  • The number of persons attending religious services or celebrations, conferences or meetings, cannot exceed 40% of the capacity of the venue, with a maximum of 40 persons in closed spaces. In open spaces , these events may now receive up to 80 persons only.
  • Restaurants, including take-away and home deliveries, are open from 6 am to 8 pm.
  • Bottle stores open from 9 am to 3 pm, close on Sundays.
  • Use of theatres, cultural centres or auditoriums is prohibited. Exceptional cases must request authorisation by  the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs.
  • On Sundays, holidays and special holidays, shopping centres are allowed to open from 9 am to 3 pm.  On the remaining days, they will be open from 9 am to 6 pm.
  • Exceptionally, conferences with up to 150 people may be authorised, upon request, by the Ministry of Justice, Constitutional and Religious Affairs.
  • Beaches close for leisure activities.
