Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Embassy of the Russian Federation in Namibia has extended its congratulations to Namibia on the country’s 36th Independence Day, commending the nation’s historic struggle for freedom and its progress since gaining sovereignty in 1990.
In a message marking the occasion, the Embassy paid tribute to the courage, resilience and sacrifice of Namibian patriots, adding that independence was the culmination of a long struggle for self-determination and a peaceful future.
“Today, Namibia preserves its heroic history while honouring its traditions and cultural heritage,” the statement affirmed.
The statement highlighted the role of South West Africa People’s Organization (SWAPO) in leading the liberation struggle, as well as the support provided by the international community, including the former Soviet Union, during Namibia’s path to independence.
The Embassy further acknowledged Namibia’s post-independence achievements, describing the country as a stable, rule-of-law state that has built strong institutions, developed its economy, and continued to improve the well-being of its people.
The Russian Federation concluded by extending its “heartfelt congratulations to Namibian friends” on the 36th anniversary, reaffirming goodwill and continued relations between the two countries.
