Africa-Press – Namibia. Minister of international relations and rade Selma Ashipala-Musavyi has called on Brazilian companies to consider setting up manufacturing and processing plants in Namibia for value addition of local products.

Ashipala-Musavyi made the call during an official two-day visit by Brazil’s ninister of foreign affairs, Mauro Vieira? in Windhoek on Tuesday.

Namibia and Brazil’s partnership centres on defence, maritime security and agriculture, with the two having a 30-year naval cooperation pact.

Ashipala-Musavyi highlighted Namibia’s oil and gas discoveries, including green hydrogen, and said Namibia offers a stable business environment, strategic access to regional and international markets, and an abundance of natural resources that remain underutilised in terms of value addition.

“We encourage Brazilian companies to consider establishing manufacturing and processing plants in Namibia to add value to these resources locally,” she said.

Ashipala-Musavyi stressed that such investments advance industrial growth, employment creation, skill sharing and Namibia’s overall economic upliftment.

On his part, Vieira underscored Brazil’s serious interest in Namibia’s oil and gas sector with ongoing developments.

“The wealth generated by the oil industry creates opportunities for our countries to foster economic growth, create jobs, promote social inclusion and finance the transition to low-carbon economies,” he stressed, adding that is why Petróleo Brasileiro SA (Petrobras) has returned to Namibia.

Petrobras is a Brazilian majority state-owned multinational corporation in the petroleum industry.

Earlier this year, the company announced it had purchased a stake of about 42% in oil block 2613 in the Lüderitz Basin.

“We hope the negotiations between our respective companies will bear fruit and contribute to the development and the well-being of our peoples,” he said.

The minister concluded by expressing the South American country’s interest in championing technical dialogues to facilitate exporting of Brazilian pork and poultry to Namibia.

“Brazil can contribute to food security for the Namibian population by providing safe, affordable and nutritious food products,” he said.
