Africa-Press – Namibia. THE U.S. Embassy in Windhoek has reminded all Namibian travellers that overstaying a U.S. visa carries serious consequences, including travel bans, visa ineligibility, or even criminal charges. The warning comes as international travel to the United States increases and underscores the importance of complying with the terms of a visa and the authorised period of stay.
U.S. Ambassador John Giordano stressed, “I strongly urge all Namibians travelling to the United States to follow our immigration rules. Responsible travel supports a safe, secure, and fair immigration system for everyone. Remember: a visa is a privilege, not a right.”
The Embassy emphasised that the authorised period of stay is determined by the “Admit Until Date” on the I-94 form provided by U.S. Customs and Border Protection upon entry—not the visa’s expiration date. Consular officers routinely review immigration records, and any previous violations may affect future visa applications. Intent does not excuse overstays, and there is no allowance for “honest mistakes.”
