MVA Fund consoles Otjiwarongo accident victims' families

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Motor Vehicle Accident Fund of Namibia (MVA Fund) has extended its condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in a tragic crash between Otjiwarongo and Okahandja on Sunday.

In a statement yesterday, the MVA Fund’s chief of corporate affairs, Surihe Goamas-Guchu, wished the injured a speedy recovery and assured them of the fund’s support on their recovery journey.

“They have been picked up on the system and the fund’s case manager is on stand-by to assist where there may be difficulties,” she said. Goamas-Guchu said the MVA Fund can also assure the bereaved families of their dedicated efforts to help them during this difficult time.

“According to the MVA Fund’s emergency call centre, a head-on collision allegedly occurred between two sedan vehicles as a result of a third vehicle (a pickup), which was overtaking one of the sedans.

“The crash claimed the lives of six people at the scene, while three survived,” she said. Goamas-Guchu said the injured are receiving the appropriate medical care.

She encouraged the families to contact the MVA Fund’s service centre at Otjiwarongo, or the nearest service centre in Windhoek, at Otavi, Walvis Bay, Keetmanshoop, Ongwediva, Rundu or Katima Mulilo for funeral and related benefits the fund offers.

The fund also reminded the public to report crashes to its accident response number, 9286, as doing so could save lives. Meanwhile, the Namibian Police released the names of the six people who died in that collision.

Police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi confirmed that one of the victims is a 27-year-old woman, Ciska Bronkhorst, who died in the GTI golf, along with her six-year-old son Brian. Her husband was seriously injured in the head-on collision. His name has not been revealed.

“In the Jetta, four women – Ziita Augusto (48), Josephine Iileka (24), Sirkka Ndeshipanda Simon (27) and Laudika Ndahambelela Nghiwilepo (30) were killed in the collision,” she said.
