Africa-Press – Namibia. THE third edition of the much anticipated national multi-sport youth competition, the MTC Namibia Youth Games, have been postponed to December next year due to financial constraints.

Tjeripo Musutua, MTC Namibia National Youth Games project director, explained that MTC injected an annual amount of N$1.8 million for the 2021 youth games, but that there was a massive shortfall.

The shortfall of close to N$1 million was supposed to be derived from the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Services, but that the money wasn’t forthcoming.

“Unfortunately, we could not secure the remaining amount from the ministry to ensure that we keep the standard of the games, hence the decision to postpone the games to 2022,” he said.

The games will be held in Windhoek next year December, with a date still to be communicated. Musutua, however, stated that within the first quarter of next year, they will be hosting regional trials to select a team that will represent the country in Malawi in 2022.

The last edition of the MTC Youth games were held at Rietfontein and Grootfontein in the Otjozondjupa Region from 16 to 18 December 2020 and featured sport codes such as football, netball, volleyball, basketball, boxing, tennis, athletics and para-sport.
