Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ministry of Agriculture, Water and Land Reform is currently conducting free vaccinations for rabies and other cattle-related diseases across the country.

State Veterinarian at Outapi, Dr. Josephat Peter, told the media during a visit on Monday that vaccination against rabies is free, and all pet owners need to do is bring their dogs.

Further, Peter indicated that vaccination for cattle against lung disease and Foot-and-Mouth Disease is also free at the crush pens.

According to Peter, rabies is a deadly viral disease transmitted through the bite of an infected animal, posing a significant threat to both pets and humans. Vaccination is the most effective way to prevent rabies in dogs.

“On a daily basis, and because we have conducted community awareness on rabies and the importance of vaccinations, farmers are already here when we open the office. Per day, we can vaccinate about 70 dogs,” he said.

He added that dogs are not only vaccinated at the Outapi Veterinary Centre but also at constituency animal centres such as Okalongo, Oshifo, Onesi, Thandi, Okahao, Oshikuku, Onaanda, and Onkani.
