Ondangwa relocates Uutala residents to Omashaka Proper

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ondangwa Town Council is finalizing the relocation of the remaining 42 households from Uutala to Omashaka Proper.

This is according to town spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha, who said that this marks a significant step towards improved living conditions and regional development.

According to Shitalangaho-Mutikisha, these households, who have been residing in Uutala without properly demarcated areas, lacking access to essential services like water and electricity and unable to construct conventional homes, will now benefit from formalized plots and municipal services.

“The relocation concludes a larger initiative that began in 2018, which saw 564 Uutala households moved to Onantsi Proper and Onantsi Ext 1,” she said.

However, she said that due to space constraints at that time, these 42 households remained in Uutala, located behind the recently constructed GIPF multimillion-dollar building and the NORED head office.

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha indicated that the newly identified relocation site, Omashaka Proper, is equipped with water and electricity infrastructure and can accommodate approximately 231 households.

She explained that this move will grant the Uutala residents access to vital municipal services and enable them to build permanent homes on plots allocated in their names.

Furthermore, Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said that the land currently occupied by the Uutala residents is designated for business development.

She stressed that relocating these households is crucial to facilitate this planned growth and ensure the area’s economic progress.

The council’s engagement with the residents has been successful, paving the way for a smooth transition to their new location and improved living standards.
