Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Ondangwa Town Council, in a move to bolster its local economy, empowered 40 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through a dedicated Business Development Training session held at the Ondangwa Town Lodge on Monday.

The training session saw the participation of approximately 40 individuals, drawn from vendors at the Ondangwa Open Market and local youth entrepreneurs.

Deputy Mayor Ester Auala underscored the Council’s commitment to fostering business growth through various strategic initiatives, including the Local Economic Development and Marketing Strategy.

“The Ondangwa Town Council has developed various strategies, including the Local Economic Development and Marketing Strategy, aimed at enhancing business growth and fostering the local economy,” she said.

She added that one of the strategic objectives of the Local Economic Development Strategy is the development of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

Auala indicated that globally, MSMEs are considered the backbone of every economy and are pivotal in driving economic growth, innovation, job creation, and social integration.

However, she stressed that the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises sector faces numerous challenges that hinder its growth and development, including a lack of trading spaces or premises, limited capacity and skills to innovate, and difficulties in marketing and promoting their products.

She urged every participant to make the most of this opportunity and apply the knowledge and skills gained to their business operations.
