U.S. Embassy Clarifies Namibia Travel Advisory Status

Africa-Press – Namibia. THE United States (U.S) Embassy in Windhoek has clarified that the U.S’ current Level 2 Travel Advisory for Namibia does not restrict travel or visa processing and should not be interpreted as a punitive measure.

“The U.S. government issues a new travel advisory for every country in the world each year. The current Level 2 Travel Advisory for Namibia was renewed on 23 December 2024. Despite recent mentions in local media, the overall advisory level has remained unchanged since 2023. The advisory recommends that travellers ‘exercise increased caution’ due to health and crime considerations. Namibia’s current advisory level is common among many countries globally, including the UK, France, and Germany, and serves as general guidance to help travellers make informed decisions related to the risks of international travel,” the Embassy’s Acting Public Affairs Officer, Rachelle Duck, explained.

She added that this advisory does not restrict travel or visa services and should not be seen as a penalty, emphasising that Namibia remains a welcoming destination for American travellers, and that bilateral travel between the two countries continues.

Duck further clarified that the Level 2 Travel Advisory should not be confused with the presidential proclamation issued on 9 June 2025 by U.S. President Donald Trump, which restricts entry for nationals of certain countries due to national security and public safety concerns.

“We underscore that Namibia is not included in this proclamation, and there have been no changes to visa eligibility for Namibian nationals. The United States values its people-to-people ties with Namibia, and Namibians who follow U.S. immigration rules continue to be welcomed as visitors, students, and business travellers. The Embassy remains open. We are focused on protecting our nation and our citizens, and are committed to facilitating legitimate travel to the United States in accordance with U.S. law and policy,” Duck said.
