Africa-Press – Namibia. The secretary of the Swapo Party Youth League in Kavango East Anselm Marungu is set to contest the position of regional councillor for the Ndonga Linena constituency. Marungu will compete against the incumbent councillor Michael Kampota and former regional coordinator Marceline Kahare at the upcoming elective district conference, pending the outcome of the party’s vetting process. The three candidates were nominated by Swapo branches in the constituency during a nomination process that concluded on Saturday. Marungu confirmed the nominations to Nampa on Sunday, stating that they are now awaiting the vetting results from Windhoek before the elective district conference can proceed. “The date of the elective district conference depends on when we receive the vetting results from Windhoek,” he said. All three names were submitted to the vetting committee.
The outcome will determine who is eligible to stand. “The vetting process will confirm whether we are cleared to proceed,” he noted. At the conference, all nominated candidates will undergo a formal review and vote.
The successful nominee will then be added to the list of candidates for the upcoming Regional Council and Local Authority elections scheduled for November this year. Meanwhile, the Ndiyona Constituency has completed its nomination process.
The candidates are incumbent councillor Laurentius Mukoya, Bernardino Luka and Solastika Muraghuli. In the Mashare Constituency, the contenders are incumbent Mavara Nkore Phillips, Rudolph Mupiri, Loise Garoses and Annarossa Mbangu. The Rundu Rural Constituency will be contested by Lukas Mbangu, Daniel Kavhura and Shikongo. Nomination processes in the Mukwe and Rundu Urban constituencies are still ongoing.
