Africa-Press – Namibia. The Erongo Regional Council will construct a Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSME) Park with the aim of addressing youth unemployment and economic exclusion in Kuisebmond.
This is part of the council’s attempt to further promote township economy and reduce poverty within the Walvis Bay community.
The park will be built on two plots that were donated by the Walvis Bay municipality.
It will be constructed in Kuisebmond and will become a hub for local entrepreneurship and a springboard for small businesses within the Walvis Bay Rural and Urban constituencies.
Speaking at the groundbreaking of the facility yesterday, chairperson of the Erongo Regional Council and Walvis Bay Rural constituency councillor, Florian Donatus, said the facility will allow the community to grow in terms of informal business activities that can become sustainable sources of income.
“We have made promises, and therefore, we are here today because we are delivering on those promises. Our goal remains clear: to fight unemployment, reduce poverty, and drive Namibia’s industrialisation agenda,” he said.
He added that the construction of the park is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to deliver on promises made to the people of Erongo and to support Namibia’s broader industrialisation efforts as guided by Vision 2030.
“This MSME Park is more than bricks and mortar. It is a physical manifestation of our dreams, our shared plans, and the aspirations of our youth. It is a symbol of progress,” he said.
He said the facility will serve as an entrepreneurial incubation centre to nurture and empower the next generation of business leaders.
“Our aim is to have youth entrepreneurship and business incubation centres in all seven constituencies in Erongo,” he said.
The council is also committed to facilitate access to training, mentorship, funding, exchange programmes and strategi c partnerships for local youth and small businesses, he added.
He also urged the private sector to support the initiative saying they should use their corporate social responsibility budgets to support impactful, transformative projects.
