Africa-Press – Namibia. Nampower Volleyball Club and Blaze Aces were the crowned champions of the 2025 Bank Windhoek NVF Cup held over the weekend at Ramatex Hall in Windhoek.

In the men’s final, NamPower produced a commanding performance to claim the first prize worth N$20 000, ahead of Brutal Pack in second winning N$ 15 000, while Namibian Navy secured third place worth N$10 000 after defeating NDF Hurricanes, who walked away with N$5 000.

The win caps a strong turnaround for NamPower, who redeemed themselves from an opening defeat to Brutal Pack in the group stages before powering through the knockout rounds to lift the trophy.

The teams that made it to the final in both divisions automatically qualified for the MTC Volleyball National League (VNL).

The prize money in the women’s division was the same as for the men’s teams. Blaze Aces clinched the women’s title, beating Africa Ladies in the final. DTS secured third place to round off the podium.

Blaze Aces coach Hank Broner describes the victory as “emotional,” reflecting on the team’s comeback.

“Originally, when our team first qualified, we were not ready. We only had seven players, and unfortunately, circumstances made us lose five of them. But VNL is not for making excuses, so we decided to go big this year,” he says.

Broner credits the team’s success to hard work, player development, and coaching collaboration.

“It culminated in a very strong team throughout this year, with players we’ve developed and some old players that came back. We are four coaches constantly working together, each with our own know-how and energy. That made our celebrations so long and so hard yesterday. I was crying tears, it was very emotional.”

On the strength of volleyball in the Kavango region, Broner adds: “About 50% of the country’s volleyball players come through Kavango. We are producing more players than any other region, and when Kavango volleyball is strong, Namibian volleyball is going to be strong.”

Echoing the success of the region, Kavango Volleyball Association chairperson Anna-Rosa Mupiri expresses pride in Blaze Aces and Brutal Pack’s achievements.

“We did our homework, and clearly the results have shown. We are taking a trophy back home, and the guys came in second place. As a chairperson, I’m very proud.

“We provided transport via a bus given by the Ministry of Education, Innovation, Youth, Sport, Arts and Culture and the university supported students with accommodation in the venues.”

Looking ahead, Mupiri says she has plans for the association’s gala dinner to raise funds for the upcoming VNL season.

“VNL requires teams to travel every month to different towns, so we need sponsors on board. The gala dinner will help us support the teams.”

She concludes with a message for players, fans, and sponsors.

“Clearly, volleyball is in the Kavango. Supporters, put your money in the right place. We’ll never disappoint you. We’re going to market you and deliver results for the effort you put into us.”

Meanwhile, Central Volleyball Association (CVA) chairperson Veronica Sampapi praises her team’s performances at the NVF Cup.

“Although it’s not the first time CVA has dominated an NVF Cup, the fact that our ladies reached the finals shows dominance and high-quality volleyball. What contributed to the success of these teams is consistency, teamwork, and strong coaching setups,” she says.

Sampapi encourages young players aspiring to play at a higher level to take their training seriously.

“Be consistent, disciplined, and patient. Opportunities will come, but you need to be ready to grab them.”

She congratulates the top-four finishes of all CVA teams.

“NamPower came first, Afrocat Ladies second, DTS Ladies third, and NDF Hurricanes fourth. I’m very proud of all of them. Continue working hard, make CVA proud, and put our association out there.”

The two-day event marked another successful edition of the Bank Windhoek NVF Cup, bringing together Namibia’s top volleyball clubs in high-intensity competition under the Namibia Volleyball Federation banner.
