Africa-Press – Namibia. Indonesia aims to deepen its economic and cultural ties with Namibia, with trade and tourism at the centre of the relationship.

This is according to the ambassador of Indonesia, Mirza Nurhidayat.

He was speaking at the official opening of the 17th Annual Erongo Business and Tourism Expo on Tuesday.

This is the fifth consecutive year the embassy is exhibiting at the Expo, which is underway in Walvis Bay.

He said the spirit of Bandung still guides Indonesia’s engagement with Africa.

He made reference to the historic ASEAN-Africa Conference that laid the foundation for South- South cooperation.

“Seventy years later, Indonesia’s economic diplomacy continues through initiatives like the Indonesia-Africa Forum, infrastructure dialogues and trade missions across the continent.

“The total trade between Indonesia and Namibia rose to 5.7 million USD this year, an increase of 240% from 2024,” he said.

The ambassador added that Indonesia’s exports, mainly non-oil manufactured goods, contributed to a trade surplus of US$5.6 million.

He said this reflects Namibia’s rising interest in Indonesian products and technology, particularly in renewable energy, machinery and consumer goods.

He explained that tourism is becoming a strong link between the two countries.

“The Namibia Tourism Board and Indonesian Travel Associations began joint efforts in April 2025 to attract Asian travellers to Namibia,” he stated.

“Indonesia welcomed over 12.6 billion international arrivals in 2024, with destinations such as Bali, Yogyakarta, Komodo National Park and Raja Ampat drawing global visitors through their culture, temples and biodiversity,” he said.

The expo serves as a platform to promote high-value goods and services as well as to explore investment opportunities.

Let this expo serve as a catalyst for concrete partnerships and actionable outcomes.

“Trade and tourism can become tools for inclusive growth and mutual prosperity,” he noted.
