Africa-Press – Namibia. THE Hardap Regional Command has officially launched the festive operation ‘Safer Namibia’, with the opening of the Mariental Road Block. Acting Regional Commander, Deputy Commissioner Pamela Witbooi, urged law enforcement officers to conduct themselves professionally and respectfully while executing their duties throughout the operation, which will run until 16 January 2026.
Addressing officers at the opening ceremony, Witbooi emphasised that only police officers in full uniform are authorised to stop vehicles, and that searches should be conducted ethically and transparently, with clear communication to drivers and coordination among all stakeholders.
“Members involved in this roadblock and in this operation, please respect the human rights of our citizens. We are not the courts; we are law enforcers. We have to serve the citizens of this nation with professionalism and ethics,” Witbooi said. “Only a police officer in full uniform is allowed to stop vehicles. Other stakeholders may join after the person is pulled off, but you must communicate clearly with the driver and conduct the search respectfully.”
She also reminded officers to come prepared for long hours at the roadblock, bringing basic necessities such as food and water, and to avoid accepting items from motorists in ways that could be perceived as bribery. “It is important to maintain the dignity and trust of the citizens we serve,” she added.
The ‘Safer Namibia’ operation aims to ensure road safety and law enforcement during the festive season, particularly as traffic volumes increase along the main routes in Hardap Region.
