Africa-Press – Namibia. PHILLIP Seidler claimed a record-breaking 12th victory at the Pupkewitz Jetty Mile in Swakopmund, further cementing his status as one of Namibia’s most accomplished open-water swimmers.
Seidler described the annual race as deeply personal, noting that the Jetty Mile was the first open-water event that inspired his international career. He first won the race at the age of 13, a milestone he says changed his life and set him on a path that ultimately led to competing in two Olympic Games in the 10km open-water swim.
Speaking after his latest triumph, Seidler said he returns to Swakopmund each year not only to compete, but also to inspire young swimmers and the wider community. He explained that seeing elite sport up close can motivate people to believe in physical activity, healthy living and pursuing ambitious goals.
This year’s race, he said, was guided by a personal motto that will also shape his TeamFlippy philosophy for 2026: “Build for pressure. Build for greatness.” Seidler added that pressure is something he embraces, particularly in a race where strong challengers line up every year to contest the iconic title.
He thanked supporters, family, friends and sponsors for their continued backing throughout his career, singling out BRG Biokinetics for long-term support. Seidler also paid tribute to individuals who have played a significant role in his journey, describing the Jetty Mile as a race that will always feel like home.
The Pupkewitz Jetty Mile remains one of Namibia’s most popular open-water swimming events, attracting elite athletes and spectators to the Swakopmund Mole each year.
