Africa-Press – Namibia. PRESIDENT Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has urged Namibians to enter 2026 with unity, compassion and a renewed commitment to social responsibility, while reflecting on the achievements and challenges of the past year and honouring the legacy of the nation’s founding president.

In her New Year’s message, delivered as the country bade farewell to 2025, the President extended warm wishes to all Namibians, residents and visitors, encouraging reflection, gratitude and hope as the nation steps into a new year.

Reflecting on the past year, President Nandi-Ndaitwah acknowledged the resilience shown by communities across the country, highlighting acts of solidarity, youth innovation and the determination of families rebuilding their lives. She said 2025 brought both encouraging moments and significant challenges, including economic pressures and the impacts of climate change.

She also paid tribute to the late founding President, Dr Sam Shafishuna Nujoma, describing him as the father of the Namibian nation and a leader of the liberation struggle, whose passing united the country in grief.

The President expressed special appreciation for essential service workers, including uniformed personnel, health professionals and emergency responders, adding their sacrifices in keeping the nation safe, healthy and connected, particularly during public holidays.

Addressing learners and students preparing for the new academic year, she encouraged those entering universities and vocational training to embrace both excitement and uncertainty as part of growth, assuring them of national support and confidence in their potential.

President Nandi-Ndaitwah called on Namibians to recommit to confronting social challenges that threaten national progress, including gender-based violence, discrimination, tribalism, substance abuse and rising suicide rates. She stressed that seeking help during emotional hardship should be seen as an act of courage rather than weakness and urged citizens to support one another and protect the vulnerable.

She appealed to young people to care for the elderly and stand up for those unable to protect themselves, describing the youth as the heartbeat and energy of the nation.

Reaffirming Namibia’s commitment to unity in diversity, natural resource beneficiation, youth empowerment and sustainable development, the President said national unity remains the country’s greatest strength.

Looking ahead to 2026, she urged responsible celebrations, safer roads and peaceful gatherings, calling on citizens to begin the new year with actions that reflect the future they wish to build.

While acknowledging that the future cannot be fully predicted, President Nandi-Ndaitwah expressed confidence in the enduring spirit of the Namibian people, encouraging hard work, integrity and dedication to quality service delivery.

She concluded by wishing all Namibians a blessed, safe and prosperous new year, calling for bold dreams and collective determination in the service of the Republic of Namibia.
