Africa-Press – Namibia. THERE were some great performances at the third short course gala of the season last weekend with 11 new records established.
The gala took place simultaneously at three different venues in Windhoek, Swakopmund and Oranjemund and saw a fine turnout of 156 swimmers ranging from six to 69 years.
Oliver Durand of Dolphins Swimming Club set two new records in the boys 13/14 age group when he won the 200m breaststroke in a time of 2:28,31 and the 800m freestyle in 9:10,04.
Reza Westerduin of Aqua Swimming and Fitness Club set a new record of 29,55 seconds in the girls 13/14 50m butterfly; Roselinde Matyayi of Aqua set a new record of 31,49 seconds in the girls 11-12 year 50m butterfly; Richard Coomer of Aqua set a new record of 1:30,22 in the 100m individual medley for men 45 years and older; and Jorn Diekmann of Marlins set a new record of 10:42,19 in the 800m freestyle for men 25-44.
There were a further five relay records established with Dolphins breaking four and Aqua one.
In the boys 8 and under 200m freestyle the Dolphins team of Dirk Badenhorst, Joshua Cowley, Ivor Chase and Patrick Durand set a new record of 2:49,43.
In the girls 13/14 200m freestyle relay, the Aqua team of Jessica Humphrey, Alexandra Kapapa, Quelin Benade and Reza Westerduin set a new record time of 2:00,20.
In the girls 17/18 200m freestyle relay the Dolphine team of Lisa Engelhard, Michaela Ohm, Tiana Esslinger and Trisha Mutumbulua set a new record of 1:57,10.
In the boys 13/14 200m freestyle relay, the Dolphins team of Liam Kinniard, Fourie Steyn, Michael Bauernschmidt and Oliver Durand set a new record of 1:48,29.
In the boys 15/16 200m freestyle relay, the Dolphins team of Robin Engelhard, Nico Esslinger, Quinn Ellis and Oliver Ohm set a new record of 1:41,48.
Molina Smalley of Dolphins produced three of the top five performances of the gala in terms of Fina points.
Competing in the girls 19 category, Smalley obtained 625 Fina points in both the 200m freestyle (2:09,13) and the 100m individual medley (1:06:06) to take the top two places, while she also took fifth place with 566 points for her time of 34,51 in the 50m breaststroke.
Oliver Ohm of Dolphins was ranked third after obtaining 590 Fina points for his time of 1:58,47 in the boys 15-16 200m freestyle, while Marco Henning of Dolphins came fourth with 574 points for his time of 1:59,54 in the boys 19 and older 200m freestyle.
