Africa-Press – Namibia. Twelve Covid-19 deaths in four districts were reported in the last 24-hour cycle. None of the deceased were vaccinated. The Oshakati district reported 50% of the total deaths.
According to Health Minister Dr Kalumbi Shangula, five deaths occurred between 26 and 31 December 2021, six occurred between 3 and 4 January 2022, and one death occurred on 5 January. One case from the Outapi district died at home.
“We announce 547 confirmed cases from 2 845 results in the last 24- hour reporting cycle, which represents a 19.2% positivity ratio. Out of the total confirmed cases, 517 are new cases and 30 cases are re-infections,” the Minister said.
The ages range from three weeks to 103 years. Of the total confirmed cases, 419 are not vaccinated, accounting for 76.6%. Khomas recorded the highest number, 110, constituting 20.1% of the total cases, followed by ||Kharas with 61 cases, accounting for 11.2%.
Among the confirmed cases are 63 learners, 17 healthcare workers, ten students and nine teachers from different schools and institutions. Seven cases have received one dose of the vaccine, 100 cases are fully vaccinated, of which 12 have received booster doses, and 21 of the vaccinated cases did not specify the number of doses received.
“We are reporting 779 new recoveries,” Dr Shangula said.
“The number of active cases is 14 511, while 377 cases are currently hospitalized across all the regions, of which 35 are in ICUs. Five of the hospitalized cases have received one dose of the vaccine, while 30 are fully vaccinated,” the Minister said.
The remaining 342 or 90.7% are not vaccinated. One case in ICU has received one dose of the vaccine, while two cases are fully vaccinated. By 5 January 2022, a total of 406 899 people aged 18 years and above have received at least one dose of the vaccine, representing 27.1% of the target population (1 501 041).
A total of 106 340 have received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, while 239 573 adults had received two doses of other vaccine types. Therefore, 345 913 adults have completed their vaccination, translating into 23.0% of the target population.
A total number of two 2 159 children aged 12 to 17 have received at least one dose of the Pfizer vaccine, representing 0.7% of the target population (307 298). Of these, 89 are fully vaccinated.
The cumulative number of people vaccinated with a first dose, both adults and children, is 409 058 of which 346 002 are fully vaccinated while 6 933 people have received a booster dose.
