Africa-PressNamibia. A total of 120 people have been vaccinated at the Walvis Bay Corridor Group clinics at Gobabis and Okuryangava since they opened their doors on 3 September.

Vaccinations are carried out in collaboration with the health ministry and transport and logistics sector. “We are confident that we will be able to vaccinate more vulnerable communities, including our long distance truck drivers. Our main aim is to support the efforts of the health ministry, and to ensure that the transport and logistics sector is on board to support the national Covid-19 response,” said WBCG marketing and communications manager, Cindy-Lu Hasheela.

The first roll-out focuses on vulnerable populations such as truck drivers and key population groups. “This serves to find amicable solutions in addressing the Covid-19-related challenges associated with the movement of cargo in and across the borders of Namibia. Long distance truck drivers in particular seem reluctant to get vaccinated, as the current vaccination points are somewhat out of their normal routes,” said Hasheela.

Plans are also under way to establish a Covid-19 vaccination drive-through campaign in collaboration with the Roads Authority weigh bridges, which will see transport and logistics operators and drivers stay in their trucks while getting their injections.
