Africa-Press – Namibia. GOVERNOR Elia Irimari of Oshana has highlighted that the increasing pace of rural-urban migration is intensifying the demand for residential and business properties in urban areas of the region.

Irimari made this statement during his State of the Region Address (SORA) for the financial year 2022/23.

In the pursuit of providing urban and low-cost housing, Irimari mentioned that the three towns of Ongwediva, Ondangwa, and Oshakati have serviced and allocated 863 plots for housing development in the region during the fiscal period of 2022/23.

In the past financial year, local authorities also initiated the planning and establishment of new townships to expedite urban land delivery.

“We are determined to bring services to our people at all costs,” he said.

At present, Irimari noted that a total of eight townships are being established in the region.

Surveying is underway for 275 plots at Efidi Extension 6 in Ongwediva, while planning is in progress for 221 plots at Onawa Proper and 137 plots at Onawa Extension 1.

In Oshakati, the Ehenye Extension is servicing 283 plots, while Onawa Extension is servicing 11 452 plots, and Evuluko Extension is servicing 300 plots.

In Ondangwa, servicing is being carried out for 102 plots at Extension 28, and in Omashaka, 600 plots are being serviced.
